All Change…

Ten years ago we were all sick of the Conservatives and desperately wanted change. So many people voted Labour, and in particular for Tony Blair. He promised so much change, and yet during his time in office he introduced policies that in opposition he had fought against. We didn’t get Labour, we got the Conservatives for another ten years. I’m glad I wasn’t one of the many people who voted for him or I’d feel even more disillusioned. I’ll remember him for directing a fortune towards bureaucracy whilst claiming it was doing good in the real world. And of course Iraq, where we made sure another country didn’t attack us first by attacking them first. So much for setting a good example. He’s off to be a Middle East peace envoy now, and who doesn’t wish him all the best? I’d wish anyone the best of luck in that job because it would be fantastic if the killing would stop, but I’m not sure a man who is so much in George W. Bush’s pocket is going to be as effective as is being hoped. We’ll see.

We’ll also see about the new Prime Minister. He’s my sixth Prime Minister, although I can only remember Thatcher, Major and Blair. Despite myself I’m going to take him at face value and hope he does a good job. Whatever, I suspect there’s going to be a little less spin. So I welcome you enthusiastically Mr. Brown, but please don’t let us down like Mr. Blair did…
