Michael Jackson
Posted in Idling on 10/24/2007 09:16 pm by foolhandyI’m watching Michael Jackson : What Really Happened on Channel 4.
Fascinating stuff, and watching the empty auction scene swiftly followed by him as performing genius singing I Want You Back and Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough I can’t help but feel sad for him, even if (and maybe because) he’s brought it on himself…
And now, a quiz. For two points, what does Michael Jackson think he’s saying when he shrieks “Shambo!”
Incidentally, I am a Michael Jackson fan - that’s why I know the answer, and why I specifically chose a non-freaky picture…
Edit :
And here are the lyrics to Billie Jean
She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene
I said don’t mind, but what do you mean I am the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round
She said I am the one, who will dance on the floor in the roundShe told me her name was Billie Jean, as she caused a scene
Then every head turned with eyes that dreamed of being the one
Who will dance on the floor in the roundPeople always told me be careful of what you do
And don’t go around breaking young girls’ hearts
And mother always told me be careful of who you love
And be careful of what you do ’cause the lie becomes the truthBillie Jean is not my lover
She’s just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my sonFor forty days and for forty nights
The law was on her side
But who can stand when she’s in demand
Her schemes and plans
‘Cause we danced on the floor in the round
So take my strong advice, just remember to always think twice
(Do think twice)She told my baby we’d danced till three, then she looked at me
Then showed a photo my baby cried his eyes were like mine (oh, no!)
‘Cause we danced on the floor in the round, babyPeople always told me be careful of what you do
And don’t go around breaking young girls’ hearts
She came and stood right by me
Then the smell of sweet perfume
This happened much too soon
She called me to her roomBillie Jean is not my lover
She’s just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my sonBillie Jean is not my lover
She’s just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my sonShe says I am the one, but the kid is not my son
Billie Jean is not my lover
She’s just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my sonShe says I am the one, but the kid is not my son
She says I am the oneBillie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my loverBillie Jean is
Billie Jean is
Billie Jean isNot my lover
Not my lover
Not my lover
Not my loverBillie Jean is not my lover (she is just a girl)
Billie Jean is not my lover (she is just a girl)
Billie Jean is not my lover (she is just a girl)
Billie Jean is not my lover (she is just a girl)Billie Jean is
Billie Jean isBillie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my loverBillie Jean is

He really, really, really, really freaks me out! I didn’t watch it. For that reason.

He does me a bit, but I’m such a fan of him pre-History that it’s almost as if I’ve made an emotional investment in his being and I want to know how he is. I think.

And how is he, I wonder?

I have no idea, and as interesting as the program was (with lots of stuff in I didn’t previously know) it didn’t really shed any light on his current state of mind.
As I was saying to Helen if he was prepared to listen to someone like, for example, Max Clifford his career would still be redeemable as there’s still an enormous amount of good will out there, but I’m not sure he wants a career for any reason other than he’s relatively broke.
The bigger you are etc. etc.

Oh crikey, I watched it too and ended up shouting ‘dirty bastard’ at the telly. But conversely, it also made me want to buy a copy of ‘Off the Wall’, too. So yes, very confusing. I think it was the point where the manager refused to comment explicitly on what went on in the hotel bedrooms that I started to get a bit sickened. Anyone with an ‘out of sight, out of mind’ attitude when it comes to even the potential for abuse, let alone abuse itself, is as bad as the perpetrator, really.
But yes, it was fascinating, even for all the wrong reasons.

I really don’t know what to think. I strongly believe in Innocent until proven guilty and despite everything we’ve heard, and despite all we perceive of US courts, he’s never been official found guilty so I can’t condemn him. But then I feel guilty because like you I’m sure that *something* must have happened at sometime and so maybe I’m making excuses for him because of his talent.
And yet then, does what he’s done later in his life mean we can’t appreciate his earlier work? No one listens to Gary Glitter anymore do they? Questions of musical taste aside, why not?
