I thought I’d take a break from my labours to share the visitor stats for foolhandy.com from the past year. This is, honestly, more interesting than it sounds because of one thing : Spider Pig.

I posted the Spider Pig MP3 file late July, almost as soon as The Simpsons Movie was released. And wow… the above graph tells the tale rather better than words but it’s worth noting that I’ve had more hits in the first five days of June 2008 than I did in the whole of June 2007. It’s still being downloaded a fair bit now, and has been joined by the less successful for still worryingly popular Moon Pig MP3…

It may not be a BBC level of hits but still, 144 hits a day isn’t bad for a website with not much of interest on it!

Now all I need is another pull like Spider Pig.

The page addresses are a bit different and some of the pictures might not work for a while but I’ll get there. The biggest loss to me is that tenderhooligan’s comments from this morning have disappeared into the ether. Sorry!

I also have a new toy, but more of that another time.

This is the hole we’ve been left with. It’s staying for the next few days until some more workmen come to fill it in and tarmac it over. In the meantime I am childishly excited about the fact that there are roadwork signs up along the road and around the corner. Because of us. Yes, I am a child…especially as how I keep looking at my lovely car in this photo and sighing.

This is quite an important post on foolhandy.com. This is because it’s the last post on the site before I move it to a new server. Things may go a little wrong for a few days, things may not…we’ll see!

Comment has been made on the fact that the last three posts here were about cars. I can only apologise, but that’s what the Frankfurt Motor Show does for a fan of the motor car.

Non-car related posts will follow but whilst you’re waiting please try and say “basically” and “literally” as little as possible, unless of course you’re going to fly in the face of current convention on TV, radio and the high street and use them correctly.

I’m far from being a word-fascist, and have of course been known to use the English language incorrectly, but we’re on the brink of a national epidemic in the UK and it’s up to us all to fight it. Good luck.

This morning, whilst trying to acquire Homer Simpson singing “Spider Pig” I came across vixy.net, a site which makes it possible to download video and/or audio from YouTube videos. So I processed one of the Simpson Movie trailers and I now have this new Spider Pig MP3* as my ringtone… Cool!

* This is a new version of my original MP3 ring tone which features the full version of Homer Simpson singing Spider Pig without any background noise or breaks.

I’ve just spent 30 minutes or so trying to get my head around permalinks. I get them. Just.  But it would seem that as my websites are all hosted on Windows servers (I currently need Front Page extensions for www.madison-house.co.uk, but I’m working on alternatives) I can’t change the permissions for the .htaccess file. If I can’t do that, it’ll just have to wait. Which is a shame. That may be an incorrect assumption of course, but it staggers me that it’s an incorrect assumption that I think I understand.

What it means in real terms is that the URL for the Support page of this site (for example) is http://www.foolhandy.com/?page_id=5 when it would obviously be much nicer if it were http://www.foolhandy.com/support.

I don’t feel at all out of my depth…

Following the lead from Murph I’ve added Adsense to this site. You should see some text ads down to the right which are supposed to relate to the text here, hence the many references to ‘Handy’ items.

I did toy with picture ads but this was the first one to come up :

I’m sure it’s a very honourable institution, but I’m not sure how Google came to think it tied in with anything here…
